About the Artist
Carole Sousa is a Cambridge-based painter whose current body of work includes abstract florals and figures. She is a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Sousa served as Visiting Faculty at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and was a recipient of the Public Service in the Arts award. Observations of people and the natural world inspire her work. Her floral paintings are based on photographs she takes while walking her dog “Tootsie” in East Cambridge. Sousa uses what she sees in photographs to find new associations and references for her paintings. Revealing the emotional content in the work comes from her concentrated exploration of where the subject and surrounding space interact, and where abstraction and representation intersect.
